  • Overview

    The Residential Therapist is responsible for performing a wide variety of therapeutic activities as directed by the Program Coordinator.  The Residential Therapist will be responsible for providing therapeutic services for all clients residing at the TGH. He/she will be responsible for recognizing crisis situations and providing appropriate therapeutic interventions as needed.  This individual will be responsible for child psychosocial assessments and assisting with the admissions process as needed.  This individual collaborates with multidisciplinary team to make recommendations for permanency planning and assist in developing the client’s behavioral health discharge plan and after care plan.

    • Provides mental health services according to discipline and in accordance to policies and procedures.
    • Evaluates and assesses the children who are receiving services, on at least a monthly basis, documents findings in the monthly note and arranges for further assessment when indicated.
    • Contributes to and participates in the preparation of a treatment plan.
    • Authorizes the treatment plan, if enrolled as a licensed mental health practitioner of the healing arts; if not licensed, reviews and signs the treatment plan prior to the psychiatrists’ or other licensed professional’s authorization.
    • Monitors the overall course of treatment services and observes and documents on a monthly basis, the direct care staff’s implementation of the recipient’s individualized treatment plan.
    • Provides individual, group and family counseling as indicated in the treatment plan
    • Proficiency in utilizing community resources as supportive services and discharge planning.
    • Serves as a liaison for the client, family, referral source, District SAMH Program Office and district Family Safety Program Office, if indicated, and other social service agencies.
    • Prepares and works with the child’s biological or legal parents through family therapy to resume or assume care of their child when reunification is goal.
    • Work with the client’s targeted case manager, if one has been assigned.


    Graduation from an accredited university with a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling or related field with a minimum of 1-year experience providing substance abuse and/or mental health counseling to at-risk youth.

    • Must have knowledge of the principles and practices of the discipline.
    • Computer literate and proficiency to Internet, online applications and email.
    • Licensed preferred.
